Minority exclusion in Students' Union elections.

With the advent of bhagwa brigade, space for the significant minority has shrinked drastically in the Indian politics.

As consequence of rampant hate propaganda, Isolation and invisibility of Muslims has become new normal in electoral politics of Indian democracy.

Recent year has witnessed the staggering exclusion of already marginalised minority community in mainstream politics.

We are witnessing the same trend of minority exclusion even in the current ongoing student union elections. Inspite of the fact that student community is considered as most enlightened, liberal and secular community in the country.

One may wonder, In the ongoing DU and JNU elections, where is the representation of minorities? Or Student community is as communal as main stream masses who won't vote for any particular party because of its Minority candidate??

In the entire discourse of minority representation in electoral politics, the most shrewd backstabber are those self proclaimed liberals who equate question of minority representation with minority communalism.

They fails to realize the fact that political empowerment of minority will never lead to minority hegemony, as it is  practically impossible. Their political empowerment will never undermine the rights of majority community. But their political under representation and exclusion can jeopardize even their basic fundamental rights, their culture and identity.

If minorities ask for representation in electoral politics, it's not communalism but it's their  political assertion as a community in thriving democracy. It's way for their political empowerment to safeguard their interest as equal citizens.
