Uzbek delegation visits the JMI’s Academy of International Studies ahead of President of Uzbekistan’s visit to India.
A delegation of Uzbek academicians visited the MMAJ Academy of International Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) on 24 September 2018 ahead of the visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to India later this month.
The Offg. Vice-Chancellor, Prof Shahid Ashraf, met the delegation in his office. He stated that it was a matter of pride that JMI is the only university in India where Uzbek language is taught. He also said that President Mirziyoyev’s visit would facilitate a greater exchange of faculty and students between the two countries and more collaborative research.
The delegation comprised Prof Bahodirov, Director of the Centre for Research of Uzbekistan’s Cultural Wealth Located Overseas, Prof Shokirjon Pidaev, Director of the Fine Arts Institute and Specialist on Buddhism, Dr Komiljon Rakhimov, Dr SirojuddinNurmatov and Dr Diloram Karamat.
Under Uzbekistan’s President initiative, the Centre for Research of Uzbekistan’s Cultural Wealth Located Overseas to study and catalogue the art objects, manuscripts and other artifacts from Uzbekistan that are located overseas collections. In just a year of its existence, the Centre has over 3000 such artifacts in 40 countries.
The delegation then went to the Academy, where there was a round table on ‘The Dialogue of Cultures’. Students learning Uzbek at the Academy impressed the visitors with their knowledge of the language. The Uzbek delegation presented the Academy with series of very valuable books entitled 'Architectural Epigraphy of Uzbekistan' and 'Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in the World Collections'. The Uzbek delegation, in turn, was presented books on Uzbek language and publications of proceedings of conferences on Central Asia organized at the Academy.
